ROBLOX is an online virtual playground and workshop — where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It's unique in that practically everything in this infinite playground is designed and constructed by individual members of the ROBLOX community.

Each player starts by chosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore ROBLOX — interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects.

Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything desired — be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer "Capture the Flag" game or some other, yet-to-be-dreamed-up object or activity.

By participating and by building cool stuff, ROBLOX members can earn specialty badges as well as ROBLOX dollars ("ROBUX"). In turn, they can shop the online catalog to purchase avatar clothing and accessories as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms.

"Hi, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate Roblox. My son who is 12 uses your service all the time. One of the movie competitions motivates him to sit down and learn new software to develop new movie scenes. I watched him a couple days ago, working hard on powerpoint, windows movie maker and other software, trying to make his Roblox movie. He didn't know how to use any of this software and learned it on his own through his motivation from Roblox. It's kind of neat how simple things like having a special 'hat' for his character is so gratifying to him. He joined the Roblox Builders Club a few days ago. He was willing to give up $5 a month from his allowance per month to pay for it (we are paying for it, but appreciated his devotion). Anyway, I appreciate your service and also how safe it is for kids. I am enjoying seeing him thrive from the competition and creativity you challenge your users with. Best of luck with Roblox."

"My 11 year old son has been involved with Roblox for 9 months now. Since he began he has learned much about scripting, and other computer related tasks....Your website has helped him with his self-esteem and social development as well. The whole time he has been thoroughly entertained by Roblox. His dream is to someday make video games, and i am certain that the time he spends participating in the Roblox community will help him achieve that goal."

"I am a parent of two boys (11 and 12) who absolutely love ROBLOX. As a Software Engineer myself, I am interested in getting my boys more involved in engineering in general, ROBLOX has been a big help."

"My son loves your site even more than the Wii he got for Xmas. Further, he has turned on at least 4 of his friends who are now members and he gave up his membership in Club Penguin to join your site. We have to pry him away from the puter on a daily basis. Not sure whether to thank you or not........lol"

"I think [we] will join! This online game is fantastic. I was hoping my son’s gaming would lead to programming, and he is now learning Object Oriented scripting. Fantastic!! And he’s 11. This game grows with the child, that is for sure."

Roblox is an online building game where you play with customizable blocks. Fight with rockets, ride trains, destroy skyscrapers, do practically whatever you want. Unlike most other games there aren't any pre-defined goals, you are given blocks and left to do whatever you want.

With your free account, you get a Character and a Place. You can customize your place however you want, and visit anyone else's place as well.

With over 500,000 players, there is plenty of creativity to go around. Every world is user-created, wildly ranging from MMOs, Paintball, Obstical Courses, Adventure maps and many, many more that can't fall into anything but their own category.

Code with Lua, the simple and easy-to-learn programming language, you can do practically whatever you cant think up. Several users have created great things, like trains, planes, cars, factories, tanks, police stations, rockets, the list goes on and on.

You can make a place, and walk around and see everything the way it should like. When you turn around, what you see is correct. I don't know any other kids program that does this. Scratch only has 2 dimensions.

Roblox is written with the language Lua. Lua is an established language. It is not a language created just to make Roblox. Lua is used by the big company Adobe to make Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

The very famous World of Warcraft game uses Lua.

I don't see any resources to teach children programming using Lua.
