Senior QA Engineer Job

# 06-095 Exempt

This position is responsible for handling Software QA and Operations Technical Support (in the form of 2nd tier correspondence as needed with web site users as well as SF Gate and Chronicle editorial, advertising, circulation, and technical staff)

Duties and Responsibilities:

- repair and maintenance of site pages, scripts and templates.

- software QA for new/revised products and bug fixes

- documentation maintenance and updates (TWiki)

- training of less senior QA staff in best practices and techniques

- QA new products and site features for compliance to site standards

Requirements:

- Usage of MySQL and Oracle database queries for analysis and debugging.

- Log file analysis and debugging information usage in the diagnosis of site problems related to newsletter mail, data feeds, and site data structure

- Authoring documentation of procedures for staff and user help screens for the web site.

- Writing testcases and testplans

- Fixes or communicate web site problems to editorial/technical staff (primarily using bugzilla bug database).

- Tracks and prioritizes the escalation and resolution of site related bugs/problems

- Serves 1 weekend per month 24/7 on-call help for site technical problems

- Strong collaboration and problem solving skills

- Previous work in QA/Senior Production position preferably related to online media.

- Excellent communication skills. Clear and concise writing skills.

- Thorough knowledge of HTML and usage of internet based applications such as email, FTP and terminal apps.

- Candidate should be comfortable using MacOS, Linux, and Windows based desktop platforms and understand their differences and how those differences affect web development strategy.

- UNIX shell/scripting, Apache, PERL, and MySQL experience highly desirable.

- Ability to manage priorities and tasks as needed in fast-paced work environment
